Axl sempezó tocando el piano y cantando en el coro de la iglesia pentecostal a la edad de 5 años. Tuvo una infancia muy dura, su padre biológico abusó de él, y su padre adoptivo, que bebía en exceso, lo usaba para sus intereses.
